This course has opened my eyes to some of the rules and responsibilities that school leaders carry. Reviewing the school improvement plan (SIP) and the technology plan sparked an awareness and an awakening. I realized that it is a huge mistake to not have stakeholders involved in at least school plans and initiatives. These plans are the driving force of each school years, so if we have staff, students, parents and other stakeholders unaware of the plan, what are we working towards. Communication is integral in sharing the plan and for the pan to be carried out.
As I moved through the curse I continued to grow as a technology coach and leader. As a coach I tried to share my knowledge with others and work outside of my own comfort zone. As a technology coach I grew in the realm of learning the benefits of social media platforms. I did not realize the need to create a professional learning network and the wealth of knowledge and resources available on site like Twitter and Facebook. As a leader my growth has been in awareness, thought and goals.
The strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis forced me to analyze my school from a new position. I have learned the value of communication and collaboration in a school unit, without those components a school or team becomes dysfunctional. This course has inspired me to become an agent of change in my school starting with myself. I have a new found respect for the leaders in my school as well as new expectations for them and myself as leaders.
