Artifact: Internet Safety Blog
Reflection:
The artifact I am using for standard 4.2 is the digital citizenship and safety blog. I was the sole creator of this artifact that I created for ITEC 7430. This artifact identifies the importance of teaching student what it means to be a digital citizen and how to use technology safe, healthy, legally and ethically. The blog makes recommendations as well as demonstrates the facilitation and modeling of safe, healthy, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technologies.
Standard 4.2 Safe, Healthy, Legal & Ethical Use requires candidates to demonstrate the ability to model and facilitate the safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital information and technologies. The blog models and facilitates resources for students, teachers and parents to help guide students in the safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital information and technologies. To demonstrate mastery of standard 4.2 I modeled and facilitated the use of several resources that promoted the safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital information and technologies such as; NetSmartzKids, Safety Land, 5 Steps to Teaching Digital Literacy in the Classroom and The Ultimate Teacher Guide to Teaching Students Digital Citizenship.
Completing the digital citizenship and safety blog was a beneficial and meaningful learning experience. I learned that I must model and facilitate the safe, healthy, legal and ethical use of technologies and digital information to students. It is not practical to expect students to know and understand the importance of safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses if I have not first set them up for success by modeling the expected behavior. To enhance or improve the quality of my artifact next time I would include information for parents to talk to their child about being good digital citizens. Students would get information regarding digital citizenship from home, school and through technology games and simulations.
The artifact, digital citizenship and safety blog impacts school improvement and student learning. Providing safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital information and technologies to teachers and students positively impacts school improvement. The artifact also depicts the impact of student learning as students use technologies to their fullest potential expanding their education beyond the walls of Brumby, through safe and healthy use. The impact can be assessed by observations of students use of technology in a safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses.
