1.2 Strategic Planning
Candidates facilitate the design, development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plans. (PSC 1.2/ISTE 1b)
Artifact: Action Plan/SWOT Analysis
Reflection:
The artifact I used for standard 1.2 was a strength, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis for technology. My contribution in the SWOT analysis was to design, implement and communicate a technology-infused strategic plan at Brumby Elementary School. To analyze my school's strengths and weaknesses I used the eight ISTE Essential Conditions. This tool was beneficial in identifying current opportunities and potential threats at Brumby, regarding the use of technology. I then communicated recommendations for implementation through my evaluation.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of standard 1.2 strategic planning, as I demonstrated my ability to facilitate the design and development of a technology-infused strategic plan. A SWOT Analysis was designed to assess the strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats at Brumby as it applied to their technology initiatives. In this artifact I gathered information from the schools SIP and evaluated data to design and develop a strategic plan that was established on the GAPs analysis and areas of weakness or strength. The SWOT analysis included recommendations and devised implementations that focused on analysis weaknesses. The information needed for the analysis require that I communicate with administration, academic coach, technology coach and district-level technology administration. The SWOT Analysis results were communicated to a roundtable of stakeholders including school administration.
In completing this artifact, I learned the importance of evaluating the strength, witnesses, opportunities and threats within a program. Evaluating components of the SWOT analysis gave me the insights needed to recommend implementations to increase technology use to improve teaching and learning at Brumby. Designing the SWOT analysis gave me an opportunity to apply my knowledge of the ISTE standards in practical use. If I were to initiate another SWOT analysis, I would include more stakeholders in the development.
This artifact impacts my school's improvement by highlighting the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats and implementing recommendations. This artifact also made it apparent that there was a lack of knowledge of technology standards, among the teachers, which made integration difficult. Through communication of the SWOT analysis awareness has been made and facilitation of implementation has been set in motion. The artifact impacts teacher's professional development opportunities and workshops that are infused with technology to increase student engagement and learning. To assess these impacts of the program and practice observations and data will be used.
