Artifact: Vision Paper
Reflection:
A shared vision was created in ITEC 7410 and designed through collaboration, observations, interviews and a survey. To show mastery of element 1.1, the artifact “shared vision and rationale” is being used. The artifact details the shared vision proposal for the technology use at Brumby Elementary while explaining the rationale of the shared vision. As the author of the shared vision, I played a leading role in gathering information, communicating, developing and writing the shared vision to propose to the administrative and vision team. To support the rationale, I created a survey for stakeholders. I received 37 replies from a variety of stakeholders.
To facilitate the development of the shared vision, I interviewed teachers, administrators, coaches and students at Brumby Elementary School. After interviewing and surveying stake holders, I used the data from the 37 surveys I received back and collaborated with five other individuals: the technology coach instructional coach, principal, and two classroom teachers. The team met twice during post planning and once during the summer to disaggregate the data. In person meetings were held and the team analyzed the data, identified key needs and brainstormed ideas for the new shared vision that would include the use of technology. As a teacher leader, facilitated discussions regarding the development of a new shared vision that incorporated the use of technology, diversity, and equitable use. All staff members participated in Microsoft Innovated Educators (MIE) certification professional development last year. All staff members were certified, therefore the team used Office 365 and SharePoint to collaborate on the shared vision file. The team finalized our shared vision at the summer meeting and devised a plan to share the vision with other stakeholders during pre-planning and the first PTA and Title I meeting in August.
To facilitate the implementation of the shared vision, I took the lead on how to present the shared vision to the staff and other stakeholders. Working with the administrators and the vision team, the shared vision was presented to the staff during pre-planning and other stakeholders at the first PTA and Title I meeting. To support me in the implementation process, the administration approved, and the technology coach arranged professional development to ensure teachers had the needed skills to implement technology in their classrooms. The district technology coach was also supportive to the implementation by hosting several onsite technology workshops. Finally, I facilitated a parent-student Office 365 workshops. The workshops were held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and parents and students learned how to use Office 365 and access it for free at home.
From completing this artifact, I learned the benefits of collaborating and communicating with stakeholders to develop a shared vision. I learned that stakeholders are more vested in the implementation if they have a voice in the shared vision. If I were to do this again, I would include community partners in the development and implementation of the shared vision. The vision was created by the vision team which included me, the school principal, technology coach, academic coach, and two classroom teachers.
Brumby Elementary School was impacted immediately by the collaboration of the shared vision. Stake holders, that replied to the surveys felt their voices were heard and supported and promoted the vision. The technology devices in the school have been used in all classrooms in a variety of ways to increase student engagement and learning. Teachers are being supported with technology rich professional development and it is transforming classrooms into digital learning environments. To assess the overall impact on how technology is being used observations and surveys can be used.
