Vision
Digital technology is transforming teaching and learning and the way we access, gather and share information. Technology and its capabilities give us the opportunity to access and connect with the world and people around the world like never before. Today's classrooms require 21st century skills to be prepared for digital learning environments students are immersed in.
My vision for technology in P-12 classrooms involves a learning environment that is student-centered and personalized, focusing on how student interests and individual needs can be met. There has been a shift in educational paradigm and learner differences are valued an individualized instruction encouraged (Lokey-Vega & Stephens, 2018). Students are being expected to take ownership of their learning and create learning goals that will be fostered in a personalized learning and student directed learning environment. All students need to “become adaptable college and career ready young adults” (Lokey-Vega & Stephens, 2018, p.6). Therefore, my vision for technology is to also be aware of the digital divide and provide opportunities for underrepresented students to use technology in meaningful authentic ways.
The implementation of my technology vision in the P-12 classroom is centered around creating an environment that transforms student learning and elevates teaching. Creating learning environments that are personalized and innovative provides students with enriching lessons in 21st century skills. According to ISTE (2019) an empowered learner is where, “student leverage technology to take an active role in choosing, achieving and demonstrating competency in their learning goals, informed by the learning Sciences.”
To bring my vision to life I will stay abreast on professional learning opportunities and create a digital learning network that will provide me with current and relevant practices. I will support all students by being cognizant of the digital divide and provide opportunities for underrepresented groups to engage in technology rich activities. As schools adjust to student- centered learning, I will continue to find ways to make learning meet individual needs and personal interests.
