1.3 Policies, Procedures, Programs & Funding
Candidates research, recommend, and implement policies, procedures, programs and funding strategies to support implementation of the shared vision represented in the school, district, state, and federal technology plans and guidelines. Funding strategies may include the development, submission, and evaluation of formal grant proposals. (PSC 1.3/ISTE 1c)
Artifact: Instructional Technology Grant Application
Reflection:
Serving as my artifact for standard 1.3 policies, Procedures, Programs and Funding is the Instructional Technology Grant Application. The grant proposal was written in ITEC 7410. The proposal was for six SeaPerch kits and two tool bags. I asked for these materials to promote underwater robotics to make a STEM program available to underrepresented populations like minority students and girls.
I demonstrated the ability to research, recommend, and implement policies, procedures, programs and funding strategies for educational technologies. I researched technology programs for elementary students that would expose children to real world problem solving using technology. I was able to determine the effectiveness of the SeaPerch program raising achievement in the classroom. I recommended the program to my principle at Brumby Elementary and was given permission to go forward with the program. The grant was submitted, granted and then I began planning the implementation of the program. Through communication with a community Volunteer I found an ex-Navy volunteer who assisted with the implementation of the program.
This project gave me insight and understanding of the policies and procedures as it pertains to funding strategies in a school system. As a technology coach this experience showed me the importance of researching programs that would improve student learning. I also learned that documentation, evaluation and reflection on the implementation of the program is essential to sustain the granted program.
This artifact impacts Brumby Elementary Schools' improvement, student learning and community involvement. The researching, recommending, and implementation of SeaPerch, improved the school by creating engaging technology experiences and learning opportunities. The seaperch club will focus on enriching and elevating student knowledge, that reinforces skills to support student success. This experience has reinforced the importance of research needed to recommend and purchase effective technology tools. Through this experience I have become a better technology coach and gain deeper understanding of how to access funding in an educational setting.
