3.3 Online & Blended Learning
Candidates develop, model, and facilitate the use of online and blended learning, digital content, and learning networks to support and extend student learning and expand opportunities and choices for professional learning for teachers and administrators. (PSC 3.3/ISTE 3c)
Artifact: Technology Workshop
Reflection:
I created this artifact in ITEC 7460, a workshop to further explain the elements of Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE). The artifact details a Microsoft Innovative Education (MIE) training that was created for staff members at Brumby Elementary School. As a co-author of the MIE training I played a leading role in developing an online blended learning professional learning (PL) session for staff member that incorporated digital content and learning networks. I developed the content and created Screencast-O-Matic videos for the OneNote portion of the presentation. I explained how to use OneNote in the classroom, how to create a OneNote, and OneNote features.
To demonstrate mastery of standard 3.3 Online Blended Learning where the candidate develops, models, and facilitates the use of online and blended learning, digital content, and learning networks to support and extend student learning and expand opportunities and choices for professional learning for teachers and administrators. For our one-hour workshop we developed participant groups through Microsoft Teams to create a blended learning experience. Using interactive notebooks, we modeled for learners how to use Microsoft OneNote and assessed using Forms. I also modeled and facilitated digital content through Screencast-O-Matic videos, these videos will be available for teachers to access after the workshop for ongoing support. We also modeled and facilitated the use of learning networks through Microsoft Teams.
From completing this artifact, I learned the benefit of collaborating with others to share knowledge and document that knowledge to improve faculty development. Through communication I learned the needs of my colleagues and how my teammates and I could help and how to develop online blended learning to meet the needs of my audience. The digital content we made available to the staff members was relevant and by providing videos we created ongoing support. I also learned that the level of comfort, knowledge and skill amongst my colleagues varied greatly. To improve the quality of the artifact next time I would host a session for beginners, intermediate and advanced users. People in the different categories have different needs and it is difficult to meet those needs in one large group.
Brumby Elementary School was impacted immediately by the collaboration of the unstructured field experience. The MIE initiative was more successful because we were able to alleviate the stress of faculty members who needed more one-on-one assistance to feel more comfortable with developing, modeling and facilitating online blended learning, digital content, and learning networks. The faculty was impacted, and they were able to turn around and impact student learning. This artifact ultimately impacted our school improvement and we have become a county leader in MIE with staff and students.
